OUR STORY
"The Shady Spring Women’s Club and the Stralie Walker family founded our library in 1984. They saw a need for a library in the area and made it happen. The Shady Spring Branch Library, originally the Stralie Walker Branch, along with the Beckley Branch and Sophia libraries help serve approximately 80,000 residents in Raleigh County.
Our library prides itself on offering a wide variety of books, movies, audiobooks, and DVDs. We have a large children’s collection, a vast array of classics both for children and adults, as well as fiction and non-fiction for everyone. We also offer digital books, movies, audiobooks, magazines, and music via WV Reads and Hoopla. The library has computers available for patrons to use, free Wi-Fi, a conference room, as well as seating available for studying. Pay services include printing, copying, notary, and fax.
Here at the library, we believe that if you can read, you can achieve anything. We encourage parents to bring their children to our Toddler Tales program every Wednesday at 10:00 for story time and a craft. All ages are welcome to our Lego Club on Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 where imaginations run wild. The STEM craft table is available at all times for children to create crafts here or take them home. During the summer, the library offers a host of Summer Reading programs for all ages.
Shady Spring Branch Library loves their patrons and knows that without them we would not exist. From the books on the shelves to every event created, everything we do is for our community. We hope to continue to grow and provide our community with a place to inspire their dreams and keep them connected to the world around them."
